Team Singapore Celebrates

August 8, 2003

It was the eve of Singapore's National Day. Every one was looking forward to the Team Singapore Celebrate event. It is such rare event that a whole 8 km stretch of road is close for runners, cyclist and skaters.

The weather was good, although humid. We met at our usual nite skate meeting place. As we were there early, parking was not a problem. We geared up, waited for viruses to arrive and skated to the event location.

Along the way, towards the event location, the streets and walkways were filled with skaters. Everyone was there to participate and have fun. There were tons of cyclist and runners too. The event organisers and sponsors had stalls to display their products. Lights on skaters and bikers were flashing away. We waited patiently for the event to begin

Soon after the Guest-of-Honour arrived, we heard the starting horn to flag off the event. Off we went!

Here are what Viruses have to say.

Virus lady speedster

hooohaaaa..... National Day celebration for one and all !!!!

The event kicked off with joggers, cyclists and sk8ters all gathering at the Marina Bay.

You "siam" me and I "elak" you. Cyclists mountain and skaters sea. Joggers plenty and blinkers pretty.

Families came with strollers of babies ... cyclists all decked in red, white, blue ... sk8ters zooming up & down - some with heads full of lights, others with skins all ready to chiong ... Viruses in their happy blue feeling a million dollars.

1st dash by the joggers onto their 5km route. The TP did a gr8 job closing one lane of the road. Next, cyclists did their dash with much gutso. Sk8ters were rolling with gr8 anticipation on their wheels when finally, we were flagged off...

GO SK8TERS GO!!!!! for a closed lane of public road ... with TP flagging motorists to stop for us to go ... with 8.5km of nicely tarred road ... with toddlers and adults, chiongsters and recrees ... this can only happen as an organized National Event!!!!! Yipeeeeee!

No competition, no time to rush, no obstacle to conquer ... Just keep sk8ting, just keep sk8ting, just keep sk8ting, sk8ting, sk8ting ...

Well done sk8ters!!! Thanks to InSSAS, TP, SSC, the tireless marshalls and all others involved in making this a success!!! Until next time ... GO SK8TERS GO!!!!!!

RoboCop reckie the starting point, came back saying "very little skaters......" But We dont think so, many skaters were talking about it. Expected skater attendance to be plentiful. As 8pm draws nearer, we rolled over to starting point. Wow! What a Massive Crowd!

Outdoor Stage, Stores, People, OnLookers, Vehicles Jammed, Music, Flasshy LightS!

Soon Skaters Get to roll, Cautious skaters watching the Signals from road Marshals, Anxious drivers desperate to get out of the jam, Horns Everywhere, Yet the surroundings didnt affect our skating mood, We rolled Happily and Return to Finishing line with our Sweat soaked Team T.
