May 28, 2006 - Paya Lebar Runway Skate / Cycling 2006 By Virus Alert.
Ever since 2001, TSV has never failed to make appearance in the National Runway Cycling/Skate event held at the Paya Lebar Military Airbase. This year even though our core team members were away for an overseas charity skate event, we were still able to send 9 Viruses to participate in the runway skate event. For some Viruses, it was their first time participating in such an event and they were glowing with excitement even at 7am : After much warm up and stretching, Viruses geared up for the skate expectantly. As we entered the airbase, we could see lots of inline skaters and cyclists gathering in groups taking pictures and warming up for the event. At the starting line, skaters and cyclists waited excitedly for the flag off of the event. It was a rare chance where we could skate on wide open runway which is always out of bounds to civilians. Once the guest-of-honor flagged off the event, Viruses started forming our pack and skated along with the rest of the other skaters. It was great to skate at the runway as the road was smooth and wide. Every skater and cyclist was going in the same direction which minimized accidents. Each Virus skated at least 15km of the route while a few skated as much as 3 complete rounds of 45km. The event was completed with the usual fanfare of live performance and lucky draw. Every year, our Viruses would carry home lucky draw prizes of bubble jet printer, Shimano bike….. This year, we carry home a satisfied aftermath of a good workout : Thank God for the great weather during the entire event. It only started to rain when the event was over! Until next year, Go skaters Go!!!
