September 15, 2007 - Team SpeedVirus Sixth Anniversary Celebration
By Virus Evocative

Wow…!!! With a blink of an eye, Team SpeedVirus turns SIX!

We have come so far these six years and we thank God for every single event, race, success, trial and test. We have been blessed with great bonding as a team and many victories (local and abroad). All these do not come easy - the team will not be where it is now if not for each and every wonderful member. Thank you Viruses for being such great team mates and for working hard towards the visions.

This year, we suddenly found ourselves in "Japan" surrounded by kimonos, sake, sushi and all the fascinatingly strange things from the land of the rising sun. There was a wide spread of food from starters to main courses to desserts to sake…. The freshness and succulence of the main course left the greedy Viruses munching hungrily. Glorious food, great ambience, fine friends and awards! What more can a gal like me ask for on a Saturday night ??!! :p

With hard work, comes Awards!!
Suddenly, there were lots of camera lights flashing as the attention turned towards the head table filled with goodies. Having completed the 1st League of 2007 (Individual Time Trials and Team Time Trial), awards, medals, prizes and certificates were given out one by one to the deserving Viruses. Most have attained a higher level of skating skill and also faster speed. My heartiest congratulations to ALL the Viruses who have worked so hard to reach where they are. Cheers to the winners of the Top Scorers for the Men's, Women's and Junior events.

A few times a year, Viruses rid themselves of their smelly skins and adorn silk of the softest flow, crisp cotton of the brightest white; in short, we dress up!! It's refreshing watching smartly dressed Viruses as they titivate to compete for the "Best Dressed Guy & Gal".

"Wahh…. Daryl looks sharp with his silver tie le…"
"Terence! Wear 3-piece not hot hah?"
"Wes, look like college pop idol mann…."
"Wow!! CK's crisp white matches his sharp hairdo… so handsome… ;)
"Ah pei Cow never wear his slippers tonight…"
"A cool touch of Japanese on darling Carmen…"
"Orange in cool black…. Nice…"
It was almost a black-tie night…. Thank you for the nominations… "Drum roll……." Best Dressed Guy and Gal goes to Terence and Ethel (keke… that's me…).

As Restaurant Manager Paul brought out the beautiful Chocolate Cake, vain Viruses immediately hopped into place and squeezed into the best positions for photos.

"Happy Birthday to us… Happy Birthday to us… Happy Birthday to TSV… Happy Birthday to us…!!!!! " Greedy Viruses cut up the cake and started jostling for the biggest piece. Yummy….!!! Mad, Greedy, Speedy, Silly…. Some adjectives for my crazy team mates, and I luvvv you all!!!

Celebration extended to our dearest Coach who has won the Coach Recognition Award 2007. For taking care of the team for six years without thinking of rewards, for even taking on the role of organizing races for the community despite the struggles and an uphill task. I know I speak for many of my athlete team mates when I say, "I won't be where I am today without her guidance." I think we ought to thank her and she well deserves this award. Thank you God for this special blessing.

"Yum sing!!!" Wine glasses were raised high and a toast was in order. Crazy guys and gals were yelling at the top of their lungs while other diners were amazed by the loud noises. More liquor were passed around as specially imported sake was poured into charming sake cups and immediately consumed by the high Viruses.

It's quite crazy at times when Viruses are in a celebration mood; they forget to keep their voices down even in a posh restaurant. Tskk… Tskk….

"Let's go pool!!!" A half intoxicated Virus shouted. Mad Viruses set off for a game of billiard as they pit against each other in a match of the sharpest shooter. They were busy shooting at each other all the way past midnight. After which they even proceeded to watch a midnight movie. Now where do they get all the energy, I just don't know.

This celebration would never be complete without each and every one of you, my dear team mates. Most of all, I want to thank God for all of you and for every opportunity to learn, race and fight together.

Until next one….. Go skaters GO GO GO!!!
