When we street skate, we represent the skating community to the non-skating public. It is imperative that we practise the correct skating etiquette. This serves to project a positive image to the public and promote the sports in the right light.
Here are some pointers that may be helpful to street skaters:
- Before going on a night skate, find out about the Category of the route. Make sure that you are capable of handling the terrain.
- Be polite, say "thank you" when pedestrians and cylists let you pass.
- Do not do sudden jumps infront of pedestrians and shock them.
- Wear your guards, blinkers and helmets (highly recommended).
- Check all your wheels, axles, and boots before starting.
- Carry first-aid kit.
- Carry handphone in case of emergencies.
- Do not wear headphones on both ears. If totally necessary, wear only on one ear and tune radio/mp3 to minimal volume.
- Make sure group understands "whistle commands".
- Warn those at the back, of impending dangers, when group are skating in cadence.
- Most importantly, DO NOT COLLIDE with any pedestrians or cyclists - give ample brake time before coming to a stop.
- Obey traffic directions when crossing at junctions.
