A black "fish tank" zoomed past as I was negotiating a bended road near Tanjung Rhu. Oh! It was Lady Speedster. She beat me to the track as we approached the time trial venue. We parked at a convenient spot and the usual crew immediately got to work preparing the track for the morning events. This was the third time trial of the first league this season and it is a special one. Besides the long sprint events this morning, we reintroduced the Team Time Trial event.
Team SpeedVirus (TSV) was the first inline speedskating team in Singapore to conduct individual and team time trials for its members. Both Individual and Team Time Trials were first launched in January 2002 after a series of dry runs in late 2001. Time trials are now a monthly affair for TSV members. Today's events were full of excitement and a memorial one. The prowesses of the skaters were proven by their great performance on the long sprint events. At the blow of each whistle Viruses cheered for each other as they raced to the finishing line. Our baby Virus Sean was getting stronger each time he raced, improving his own timing by an impressive percentage. Other Viruses too made impressive improvements, which saw promotions of Viruses to higher status. Congratulations to one and all. The last event for the morning was the Team Time Trial. Viruses were grouped into teams and a leader appointed. For this event, each team has to start and end with all its members intact within the team. Everyone was very excited, as this was the first Team Time Trial event for many of us.
As the whistle blows, Viruses pushed off the starting line and immediately formed into their teams in cadence. Each team has its own strategy in wining the race. Some teams have members switching leads every few laps. Some has the strongest member leading, and some just couldn't keep in cadence. It was an exciting, but tiring morning. We sat and chatted by the track as we geared down. We reflected the morning events and laughed over our mistakes and candid moments. Soon the sun was fast approaching above our heads. Well, it's time for us to race off again. This time is to satisfy our stomachs.
