July 29, 2007 - TSV team race - Viruses' Racing Spirit By Virus freedom
It's cold, it's wet, it's slippery on the day of the race. The gals are crazy this morning - not letting go of each other even at the sharp bends. They raced, dashed, pushed and were fighting energetically throughout the race. During the final few laps, Viruses Evo, Calm and Lady Speedster were fighting furiously as they dashed across the finishing line…. Now whose wheel crossed first?? Even the Juniors were fighting hard as their tiny bodies pushed to the max. Baby Virus did mommy proud as he beat other older Viruses and set his own record. Here comes the pack of guys consisting of skaters from the elite, speed and advance teams. Coach Jenn called out, "Ready… GO!!!" Zoom… every one burst off with max speed. Adrenalin charged and very Singaporean "scared to lose", they fought and played their favourite games. Screams from the vivacious gals were heard through the strong wind. The crazy elite guys sped off very quickly and had a ball racing each other down. I was fighting my own battle at the second pack. I stayed with the pack for a while and then went to chase after a Virus in his handsome blue…. Breakaway, dropped, pushed, passed, the race went on and on. Virus Coolzone caught up with me easily with his precise technical moves. At one of the vital bends, I lost control while attempting a cross over on the wet ground and of course I slipped! Arrghhh….. I quickly picked up my bottle and chased after the pack. It seemed an eternity before we heard, "Last Lap!!!" Those in my pack started to sprint as fast as we could against the head wind. Despite my injuries, I managed to sprint to a close finish. We congratulated each other for a good finish and a great race. Virus Doc quickly rushed to attend to my abrasions. Like many of my team mates, Viruses are a tough lot, and as a true-blue Virus, I am glad I completed the race with sweat and blood : Who won? Who won the race?? To all the marshals, timers, lap counters, photographers, road sweepers, etc….. It's no easy task to organize a successful race and let's not forget to say, "Thank you". Like Jenn often says: Well done my Viruses teammates, we'll see each other at the next race… |
