September 30, 2007 - TSV time trial - Rookie cookie
By Virus Zhou

Excitement filled the air as Viruses gathered for this morning's time trial.

As a rookie, it's even more exciting for me as I have neither the experience nor the crazy speed that my elite team mates have. Still, I only know that I need to sprint my fastest and push my hardest to complete the races in the shortest time possible.

As we started warming up, Jenn, our Coach started her briefing. She encouraged us to just give our best and focus on completing the race in the best possible time, as individual time trial is not a race against others, but a race against the clock.

When it was my turn to go, I tried my best to remember all that have been taught to me and apply to the race.
"On your mark…."
Run Run Run Run… I skated as fast as my legs would go and pushed as hard as I could. Before I knew it, I crossed the finishing line. With the smile on Coach Jenn's face, I must have done something good. "Heng ahh…." (local slang for fortunately).

Next up was the mid-distance race. I just kept chasing the skater in front of me and make sure the skater behind don't over take me. This went on for many laps and I just kept going even though my legs were screaming. With every corner conquered, I know I have lesser distance to cover, and I just kept going. It would have been a perfect race if not for a slip while cornering at the far end. Fortunately, my tough team mate suffered no injuries.

A small leak from a water hose caused the floor to be wet and even more slippery than before. Virus Calm almost slipped and skidded out but managed to stabilize and continued to race.

Our mad elite guys and gals whacked themselves silly and were really cool to watch. Their speed, finesse and style are targets for me to achieve.

With a quick debrief by Lady Speedster, the time trial ended successfully.

I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and will race again soon. All the best Viruses!
