June 1, 2008 - Time Trial - "Peep" you!
By Virus Calm

"Peep…. Peep….."
At the sound of the whistle, Viruses gathered for a quick briefing by Coach Jenn and then geared up for the highly anticipated time-trial.

After an exciting time trial we had last month, Viruses were all pumped up for the time-trial for the month of May. All were aiming to do their best in the 500m and 1km events. Knowing that these two events were considered the toughest amongst the sprints, everyone psyched themselves up.

As Viruses took to the line 2 by 2, words of encouragement could be heard from the sides as those who were preparing for their own turns on the track cheered their teammates on. One exciting pair to watch was Viruses Evo & One-pack, who fought it out for the first 20m to gain the lead over the other. As the whistle blew, little Junior set off with his quick choppy steps and managed to gain a lead over his opponent. However, our lead athlete refused to give up and tried various means to cut him at the corner. Knowing that the lead wasn't easy to come by, One-pack held on to it for as long as possible before Evo managed to cut in front of him and off she went! Junior tried to keep the gap as small as possible but did not manage to do so. But still, well done! It's great to watch our muscled dudes dashing round the track at impressive speed and gusto.

Next up was the mid sprint event. When Viruses DC and PC were all ready to kick start the race, some fancy F1 driver took a turn and zoomed round the track for warmup. Zsk… Zsk…. Really think we can't go as fast as you?!! Keke…. Beginners, Intermediate and Elite skaters attempted the trying event and came up with great results. Our gals look so cool in their gorgeous skins. Kudos to everyone who skated their hearts out and gave it their all!

Of course, no time trial is complete without some fun! Mad Viruses went on to compete in the team race. Having all four teams on the track posed a real challenge for the lap counter and timer. Different tactics showed by various teams added colour to the otherwise boring 18 laps. It was entertaining seeing Viruses One-pack and Bigger One-pack arguing for most of the race. Some were cutting low and hard at the corners while others were pushing each others at many opportunities. It was hilarious watching the otherwise serious athletes trying to outdo each other with technique, brain and brawn :

I have of course enjoyed myself tremendously and am happy with my timing. We thank God for another successful time-trial and a morning of wonderful team event.
